If the river conditions are appropriate for navigation, at dusk we will go out by boat on the Tambopata River to enjoy the sounds of the jungle that invade the night. It is also possible to find caimans (Caiman crocodilus), and if the sky is clear you will be able to see the stars. The day will end with a delicious dinner and overnight at the camp.
DAY 2: Macaw clay lick (chuncho), visit Sandoval Lake - Overnight in Puerto Maldonado (hotel).
These two places collpa guacamayos chuncho and Sandoval Lake, are at opposite ends and if we want to be able to perform these 2 activities, we will have to be with all our luggage ready before starting our activities because the time will be short.
We will wake up early 4:30 AM to visit one of the largest macaw clay lick in the world (COLLPA CHUNCHO), located inside the Tambopata National Reserve, to get to this place it will take us 1:30 hour approximately by boat. On the way we usually see capybaras (Hydrochaeris Hydrochaeris), the largest rodent in the world, birds and hopefully the most beautiful feline in South America, the jaguar (Panthera onca).
Once at the clay lick you will be able to see several species of macaws and parrots (Ara macao, Ara ara rauna, Ara chloroptere, Amazona ochrocephala, Pionites leucogaster), which come to eat the clay of the shore wall. Here we will get comfortable to enjoy the most beautiful natural spectacle of (birds), first very early come down the parrots then macaws of various species; They gather to eat clay necessary in their diet, a good day you could see hundreds of parrots and macaws flying over the treetops.
Breakfast at the observation site.
Immediately after the first activity we will take the boat back for approximately 1:30 hours and drive for an average of 2 hours to pass through Puerto Maldonado and continue along the Madre de Dios River for an average of 0:40 minutes per boat. Then we will continue with the 3 KM hike. For an average of 1:30 hours, during this tour you will have the chance to see a variety of flora and fauna, a place with a good chance of seeing monkeys (Alouatta seniculus, Saimiri sciureus, Cebus apella) and black caiman (Melanosuchus niger). Arriving at the lake we will take a paddle boat ride in search of birds and with a little luck find the best attraction of Lake Sandoval, the giant otter (Pteronura brasiliensis). The return will be by the same way, for this walk you will have to be prepared with flashlights in case the night catches us, once in the river we will return to the city of Puerto Maldonado where we will spend the night.
Here if you like you can get to know the city, go for a walk, visit the main square where you will find restaurants, ice cream parlors, bars with a variety of music, or relax and take a break to continue your trip the next day.
